Chris Veno (Topher) Biography

Chris Veno                                                                                                                             1/17/11

Hi my name is Chris Veno.  I am 19 and from Malvern, PA.  Some interesting facts about me are that I love nature, science, and I am really good at identifying plants and animals.  I also love everything about the winter such as snow, snowball fights, snow caves, cold temperatures, snowboarding, skiing, sledding, ice skating, and hockey.  I have many talents and they include drums, bass, guitar, ukulele, science, basketball, soccer, golf, hockey, baseball, football, ultimate Frisbee, snowboarding, Metalcore singer, and hacky sack.

In my family there are seven people.  My dad is a businessman and my mom takes care of the kids and has a teaching degree.  I have three brothers and one sister.  Shane, who is 15, is funny, has POTS Syndrome and sleeps a lot.  Aidan is 12, looks like Justin Bieber and is a lax bro.  Cameron is 9, and likes to build things out of boxes and play baseball/Rock Band with me.  My sister Kelsey is 17 going on 18, is really nice, plays field hockey, and is chill.

The things that I like about school are the expeditions that we get to go on and the letters home.  The things that I don’t like about school are math and the fact that we have to get up early.  While here at SOAR I hope to accomplish finding a college, applying to it, and doing well on the ACT.  Another goal I have this spring is to develop self awareness to create a life plan so I know what to do later in life.  In addition I hope to take initiative in completing responsibilities, to get a sicknasty six pack and a rad tan.  Lastly, I hope to take more initiative in developing and implementing coping strategies.

Coley

Hey, my name is Coley. I am from D.C. I love it there. My favorite things to do are camping, fishing, hunting, rock climbing, and diving. The biggest fish I ever caught was a 150 lb. Tuna. I was 8 at the time.  I started hiking at the age of 4 thanks to my dad and now I love it. I started hunting at age of 10. I started diving at the age of 14 and I love it. I started rock climbing at the age of 14. It was very fun. I also love traveling. I have been to 40 states and 10 countries.  Some of my other hobbies are drumming, snow boarding, skate boarding, surfing, and tanning. I am 15 years old. I like SOAR because it is outdoors based. The thing I don’t like is that you are away from your parents. What I want to accomplish this semester is to get a cool tan. In my family there is my mom and my dad. My dad owns his own business and my mom takes care of my dogs and the house.

Isaac Brenman

Hello my name is Isaac Brenman. It is my 2nd time at SOAR. I was born on November, 18, 1995, in Brooklyn, New York. I enjoy building stuff out of junk that I find in the trash. I also like to cook food like steak but I don’t using recipes. I am good at making cheap and good food. I have two sisters. My sister Nora is 6 years old; her birthday is on September 11 but in 2006, and her middle name is Hope. My older sister is 17 turning 18 on March tenth. My parents are divorced. My mom lives in San Francisco and my dad lives in Brooklyn, New York with my stepmom. One of the things that I don’t like about school is reading. My favorite thing is how we do school at SOAR in the field. I am hoping to learn to control my anger better this semester.  I look forward to learning how to Scuba Dive this semester in the Keys.

The Name is Wilds... Alex Wilds

My name is Alex Wilds I am a 15 years old from Louisburg North Carolina. This is my 2nd semester and I have done 5 summer programs. I have lived in Louisburg all my life, but I was born in Texas.
I like to use pencil and paper a lot. I write song lyrics, but I don’t play anything and can’t read or write music. I write lyrics as an out of anger or other feelings, it’s my way to stay sane and stress free. I can also write short stories but can’t write long ones, because I can’t focus. I also draw but I’m not very good at that.
I like to play sports a lot. I like soccer a lot. I have played soccer since I was about 5 or 6. I also play paintball a lot but I am not on a team. I do some martial arts too. I like to run and keep active.
One of my favorite subjects in school is history. In history I like the military history of wars. I study wars like World War 1 and 2, Vietnam, and modern wars. I know a lot about some of these subjects. I also like wars that formed countries.
I live with my adoptive family in Louisburg and my birth family lives in Texas. I was adopted at birth and have lived with the same adoptive family all my life. My adoptive mom is Ferne Winborne, my dad is Frank Mitch Wilds, and my sister is Sarah Wilds. They all live with me.
At SOAR I like a few things. I like the expeditions like when we go on trips like last semester on the Appalachian Trail and Washington DC. This semester we will go to places like Costa Rica and the Keys. I also like how last semester my group went and did things like white water rafting. This semester I hope to do fun things like mountain biking.
I do not like some things here at SOAR like not ever getting as much sleep that I need or not seeing family. I also do not like that sometimes we don’t get mail right away and that is the only way to contact the outside world. I do not like that we don’t have any music or games in other words no electronics.
I want to accomplish a few things at SOAR. I want to lose weight and gain muscle because I like being in shape. I want to be a better leader because I like to lead. I want to have good grades because I normally don’t. I really want to do this one the most; I want to have a lot of fun.

Jon Adkins

My name is Jon Adkins and I was born on January 17, 1991 in Houston, Texas and am currently residing in Austin, Texas.
Some interesting facts about me are that I’m adopted, I love classic cars, and I love to scuba dive.
I’ve been to many places in my life but most of them have been with SOAR. Some of the places that I’ve been with my family like Florida, Belgium, France, some other places in Texas like Sugarland, Texas, and Houston Texas. Some of the places that I’ve been with SOAR have been to Costa Rica, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado.
There were four people in my family and still are but some of the people have changed. I did have a mom, her name was Barbara Adkins, I don’t remember what she did but she died in 2006. Now it’s my dad Alan who is a physician, Bill who is a real estate agent, my sister Jesse who is working full time on a farm, and me, Jon who is a student but will be looking for work when I get home.
What I really like about this school are all of my friends, the fact that we get to go to all these fun places and are still doing school, the physical education, practical math, science, and the field trips.
The only thing that I don’t like about school is the homework but the homework that SOAR gives is a lot less than I got at my old private school and probably any public school.
What I hope to accomplish this semester at SOAR is to get physically fit with a six-pack, to get A’s and B’s in all my assignments, and become really good friends with everyone here at SOAR.

Aaron Leavitt Gordon Bio

Hello, my name is Aaron Leavitt Gordon.  I’m 16 years old and live in Baltimore, MD with my family.  I am a junior in high school and this is my 2nd SOAR semester.  Some interesting facts about me are that I love music, and I taught myself how to play the guitar.  Also, I plan on moving to Israel after I graduate from high school and enlisting in the Israeli army; hopefully serving as a medic in the Paratroopers unit.  I have visited Israel three times and will going again over the summer.  Along with Israel, I have been to England, Paris, France, Italy, and Mexico.  I love watching and playing sports.  Some of my favorites are Baseball, Hockey, Lacrosse, Football, and Soccer.  I think my best talents are my best qualities.  I love to have fun wherever I am and I love meeting new people.  Some of my favorite things about school here at SOAR are that academics are integrated with outdoor activities, and that there are only a few hours of “classroom” time each day.  I also enjoy that there are only eight students, making it easy to access individual help from a teacher.  While I’m here at SOAR, I want to become a better leader, not just verbally, but leading by example.  I also want to become better at taking the initiative… and get a sweet bronze by the end of the semester.

Anders Deboom#1 Post

1/17/11

Hello my name is Anders Deboom.
I am 17 years old, and this is going to be my third semester at SOAR. I am currently living in Lake Bluff Illinois, which is a suburb located south of Chicago. I, for one, consider myself an interesting person! A few interesting facts about yours truly are: I am an avid hard core fisherman, I am a huge dog lover, and I have played and currently play, hockey, football, squash, racket-ball, and soccer. I for one love America, so I don’t really travel much outside its borders. The only place outside of the US that I have ever gone to is Costa-Rica.

I, for one, consider myself a Jack-of-all-trades when it comes to hobbies. A few of my hobbies are: fishing, sports, music, gaming, and card games.

My family is larger than most families. There are five people in my family, my Mom: Kendell, who is currently starting a new career in table setting, my Dad: Alen, who is a hard worker and a pro at the stock market, and my sisters: Siv who is working hard at Crew and Willa who plays hockey just like her big Bro.

There are many things that I like about SOAR. The things that I like the most about SOAR are: this is actually considered a school and I get full credits for the classes that I am taking, but I am able to do so many amazing things that other schools aren’t able to provide. While I have been at SOAR  there hasn’t been anything that I particularly dislike. The only thing that I might have even the slightest problem with is the fact that we haven’t been able to fish enough yet. While I’m at SOAR there are a few things that I wish to accomplish. The things that I would like to accomplish at SOAR are: gain new friends, become an all over better person, become more independent, and CATCH SOME FISH!!J

Thank you for reading my blog,
